No more right, no more left

The practice of the last three Steps must inevitably spell the death of any political affiliations we may have. And this part of our egoistic makeup tends to die hard.

It's not merely a case of pretending to have no political views. The test is much simpler -- and much more difficult.

If, when I hear "political" news, I feel anything other than neutrality, then I need to work Steps 10, 11, and 12 a little harder.

Neutrality with respect to our core addiction is the touchstone of having worked the first nine Steps (AA Big Book, p 85). A similar neutrality with respect to politics -- indeed, to all "opinion" -- is the hallmark of the last three Steps.
