No more right, no more left
It's not merely a case of pretending to have no political views. The test is much simpler -- and much more difficult. If, when I hear "political" news, I feel anything other than neutrality, then I need to work Steps 10, 11, and 12 a little harder. Neutrality with respect to our core addiction is the touchstone of having worked the first nine Steps (AA Big Book, p 85). A similar neutrality with respect to politics -- indeed, to all "opinion" -- is the hallmark of the last three Steps.
