"Trying is dying"

Does the AA Big Book really say that?

This week's Program Cliché:
"Trying is dying."

Probable thinking behind this cliché:
We don't try to do the AA program. We do it - or else we go back to our addiction.

Does the AA Big Book really say, Trying is dying ...?
No.

What the AA Big Book actually says:
Two of the last three Steps talk directly or indirectly about trying:

Step 11 says, "Sought through prayer and meditation ...." In other words, we try to improve our conscious contact with God as we understand God by seeking - that is, by trying to find something.

Step 12 says, "[We] tried to carry this message to other[s] and to practice these principles in all our affairs." So the entire Step is about trying.
